A Sessions Court on Wednesday sentenced a lifeguard to 12 years jail for the rape of an underage girl in 2011.

Judge Zanol (rpt) Zanol Rashid Hussain found Hasli Yaakob, 35, of Teluk Bahang, guilty of raping the then 15-year-old girl at a house in Teluk Bahang between April 11 and April 18 of that year.

Hasli's counsel Andy Ooi mitigated that his client had to care for his parents, but DPP Lim Cheah Yit said Hasli had shown no remorse even after the trial.

Ooi applied for a stay of execution but it was disallowed by Zanol, who ordered Hasli to serve his jail term from Wednesday.

In another sessions court, two men claimed trial to causing hurt and robbing the twin brother of one of them in Bayan Baru last month.

M. Padmanathan, 46, and Abdul Khalid Mohd Ali, 37, were charged, with several others still at large, with robbing and causing hurt to Abdul Khalid's brother, Abdul Jabar Mohd Ali, 37, at the Tun Dr Awang roundabout at about 3 am on June 18.

The duo were alleged to have stolen a purse, a watch, an iPhone, three mobile phones, RM5,000 cash, Abdul Jabar's ATM cards and driving licence as well as two ATM cards belonging to one Norhana Mahammad Sahab.

Judge Khairul Anuar Abdul Halim set bail at RM10,000 each in one surety and fixed Aug 21 for mention.
