Newly minted MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Sunday, affirmed that he would be pushing for leaders to again be part of the Cabinet.

This can only be done if the party overturns an earlier decision made prior to the 13th General Election(GE13) to reject Government posts at all levels if it fared badly in the elections.

"Yes, yes. Definitely we will support this move (to go back to the Cabinet),” Liow told Astro AWANI, but he added that the process would have to go through the Central Committee first.

Liow said that this was one of his main agendas as the party’s new leader.

“We would be having a central committee meeting and we would all issues that have come up and the challenges we face, including positions in the Cabinet and this will make the final decision because we need the agreement of all delegates first,” he said.

"A lot of issues are needed to be raised at Cabinet level and resolved quickly. And sometimes, there are delays in certain processes which caused dissatisfaction," Liow had previously said.

During the party’s extraordinary general meeting in October, delegates failed to pass a motion to revoke a 2011/2012 party resolution to disallow MCA members to take up Cabinet positions.

However, the third and fourth motions, which was to allow members to take up other government positions, including Senatorship, Government-Linked Companies, state exco positions, and other positions "deemed essential to the party" were passed by the delegates.
