KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today requested Sekijang Member of Parliament, Natrah Ismail to assist in the investigation into the alleged attempt by an individual with the title 'Datuk Seri' to bribe opposition MPs to jump the party.

Apart from Natrah, the MACC said, any individual with information on the allegations was also asked to come forward to lodge a complaint if the matter was really considered corruption.

“The complaint is in line with Section 25 of the MACC Act 2009, on the obligation to report bribery transactions.

"The MACC is ready to conduct an investigation into the complaint," according to the statement.

Recently, Natrah claimed that there were two individuals, including one of whom allegedly held the title of Datuk Seri, who had met her and asked if she wanted to support the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Natrah said she would not abandon the struggle of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), especially in achieving the Reform Agenda which is the foundation and tenet of the party.

However, she refused to reveal the true identities of the two individuals and only reported the matter to the PKR leadership.

Yesterday, the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council claimed that there was an abuse of government agencies, used as a political weapon to gain support from opposition MPs for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

In a media statement, they claimed that there were a series of actions from agencies including the MACC, Inland Revenue Board (IRB) as well as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and other agencies to put pressure on Opposition MPs, officers and even their family members.

However, the MACC and the IRB vehemently denied the allegations, explaining that their responsibilities were based on existing legal provisions.
