Buy only what you need.

That's the first sentence written on a cardboard, hanging off a man's neck, who was seen standing at a bazaar Ramadan here in Jitra.

In an interview with Astro AWANI, Azmin Ishak explained the campaign was launched due to food wasting issue, which is frequently discussed during Ramadan.

"My friend, Syed Azmi Alhabshi, has done this campaign before, using placards. People are aware of this issue, they just forget it whenever they stepped into a bazaar," said the 34-year-old man.

His photo, taken at a bazaar in Taman Suria, Jitra became viral after he shared it on Facebook.

Netizen have been appreciative of Azmin and what he has been doing.

Azmin also shared his encounters with people who see him with the cardboard.

"At first they were puzzled to see me. But when they saw the cardboard, they smiled, shook my hands and took pictures with me.

"Even the hawkers at the bazaar are now advising customers to not be wasteful," said Azmin.

Azmin also is planning to expand the campaign to a few more bazaars.

"Right now, I'm at my parents' in Kedah so I'm planning to go to a few places up north. When I'm back in Dengkil, I'll be heading to a few places around the area," he added.

When asked about his hope for the campaign, here's what he had to say:

"I hope food wasting will decline not only during Ramadan but become a habit. Besides, I hope to see more neighbours bond over this food sharing practice."
