The MCA only rejects 'hudud' which was proposed by PAS, but that does not mean it rejects Islam.

Its president, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party did not want to see the existence of two separate legal systems in the country.

"MCA's stand in rejecting hudud is not (tantamount to) rejecting Islam. We will defend the existing religious harmony among the communities.

"We will uphold the spirit of moderation and secularism in the national administration whereby non-Muslims have freedom of faith," he said in his speech during the launch of an MCA programme, 'Strong Together' here Saturday.

Meanwhile, Liow, when met by reporters after the launch said MCA had many legal experts to defend the party's stand in rejecting hudud.

"We have legal experts, specifically those who can discuss hudud, and will endeavour to defend the existing national legal system and prevent hudud from being implemented in this country," he said.
