Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said on Saturday he hopes that the Jamek Mosque in Kampung Baru will become an iconic building and focus of attention in keeping with the redevelopment of Kampung Baru.

In his latest post on his Facebook account, the Prime Minister expressed happiness over the development of the mosque that can now accommodate up to 11,000 worshippers.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), I was able to perform the Asar prayers at the Jamek Mosque in Kampung Baru yesterday. I was happy to see the Jamek Mosque looking more beautiful and bigger, able to accommodate up to 11,000 worshippers compared to just 8,000 before.

"Insya-Allah (God willing), the Jamek Mosque will become an iconic building and the focus of attention in Kampung Baru," he said.

Najib also posted three pictures of him exchanging greetings with worshippers as well as of the interior of the mosque.

He had also uploaded a video clip of almost two minutes' duration taken at the mosque and during his walkabout at the Ramadan Bazaar in Jalan Raja Alang, Kampung Baru, where he chatted with traders and customers.

"I am confident that in the next few years we will see the new face of Kampung Baru as the pride of the nation," he said in the video.

During his visit yesterday, Najib distributed 'bubur lambuk' (rice porridge) donated by him and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to the public in the vicinity of the Jamek Mosque.
