The Ringgit (RM) is being traded as usual in Makkah and Madinah and pilgrims or tourists need not be influenced by rumours on the social media that money changers are not accepting RM.

Deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said there was no problem in changing RM in Makkah or Madinah.

"Such news on social media is not true. The Operations Director of Haj pilgrims denied there was any problem in changing RM at money changers in Makkah and Madinah," he said in his Facebook posting today.

He said pilgrims should not carry large sums of cash (RM) with them since the Tabung Haji has provided withdrawal of cash in Riyal in Makkah and Madinah.
