Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali had lashed out against Umno Pulai chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed for calling the Malay rights non-governmental organisation a threat to UMNO.

Ibrahim told Astro AWANI that Nur Jazlan did not understand the meaning of democracy where in this case, it referred to one’s rights to criticise and voice out views.

“There is no need to entertain.. who is he? He does not understand the meaning of democracy,” he said when asked to comment.

“Threat to whom? Is it threat to himself?,” he questioned.

Ibrahim, last year, had said that Perkasa is ready is take over UMNO’s role if the party failed to uphold Bumiputera agenda.

The former Pasir Mas member of Parliament had also said that without the Perkasa’s support and help, Umno would not be able to emerge victorious in the 13th general election.

He also raised the ire of many Umno men when he said the party was toothless and appeared to be tired in fighting for the race and religion.

Nur Jazlan in an interview with The Heat, said UMNO has to tame Perkasa by laying down terms and conditions of their relationship and not to let the NGO from continuing to call the shots.

"It means that the party must tell Perkasa to be factual. If they cannot say anything good, they must just shut up," he said as quoted by the weekly newspaper.

He also said that Perkasa does not shut up because it is seeking legitimacy, adding that saying Perkasa is not of any help in any way to UMNO.
