CHARITY contribution continues as COVID-19 pandemic lingers on, international movie star Jackie Chan donates 1 million pieces of facemasks for the medical frontliners, the police as well as victims affected by the flood last year.

Jackie hopes that his contribution leads to more philanthropists joining the cause to donate for Malaysia.

This will help the frontliners to be prepared in their battle against COVID-19 pandemic.

This batch of high-quality face masks produced by SKYPRO Medical Products (Xiamen) Co., Ltd arrived in Malaysia on 4th February 2022.  Co-ordinated by SkyPro Medical (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and friend Johnson Ng, the face masks would be distributed to as listed below:

1) Old folks homes (100,000 pieces) handover thru The Minister of Transport
2) Ministry of Health (200,000 pieces)
3) Police and immigration officers (300,000 pieces)
4) Flood victim families (400,000 pieces) The Minister of Transport would be the coordinating agency to handover the face masks to flood victim families.

As of 6th February, the daily COVID-19 cases reached 10,089 cases while the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country increased to 2,914,220.

A total of 9,946 local cases were reported involving 9,676 locals and 270 foreigners. Another 143 cases were imported cases involving 67 citizens and 76 non-citizens.

In the flood last December, at least 55 deaths were reported.  Since the beginning of Northeast monsoon for 2021/2022, a total of 38,113 families involving 136,030 people were evacuated to 1,112 flood relief centres.

According to the study carried out by Statistics Department, the financial loss caused by the flood was RM6.1 billion. Flood victims suffered losses exceeding RM2.6 billion in damages of their homes and vehicles.
