Piling works to fortify the ground at the landslide location in Taman Idaman, Serendah, here, which began yesterday, is expected to be completed today.

Hulu Selangor district officer, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatima said the Public Works Department (PWD) had been carrying out the piling works non-stop to prevent the occurrence of landslides in other areas nearby.

"So far, 118 residents from 24 families have been housed at Sekolah Rendah Agama Serendah," he told reporters at the site of the landslide.

"We are also in the midst of detecting nine affected families who have not registered at the relief centre. Perhaps they have returned to their hometown or are now staying with their relatives," he added.

Mohd Fauzi urged those families who have not registered with the Social Welfare Department to do so immediately.

Asked on the cause of the landslide, Mohd Fauzi said the Minerals and Geoscience Department and Drainage and Irrigation Department were investing if there was a burst underground pipe.

Police had declared the area of the landslide which occurred about 1am yesterday, as a Red Zone and ordered 340 residents to evacuate to Sekolah Rendah Agama Serendah.

The incident had caused resident Muhammad Fareez Hanudin, 21, who was riding home on his motorcycle to be injured on his hands and legs, damaged a food stall owned by another resident, and 10 vehicles to fall into the caved-in road.
