Malaysians are called upon to cooperate and obey the orders of the authorities including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) especially during the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob warned that the public should never try to interfere with the task or use abusive words against security personnel.
"Please give cooperation to the police. Do not try to obstruct their duty or use abusive words against them.
“As I have said, the 'mood' in terms of police enforcement has changed from advising to being assertive and now harsh.
“I would like to say that what the police have done is for the safety and welfare of the people in this country.
“So, please give your cooperation to them,” he said at a press conference after chairing the ministerial committee meeting on the MCO here today.
Commenting further, Ismail Sabri said 309 people were remanded while another 59 were allowed bail for various offences until yesterday.
The arrest record, he said, showed that most of those detained were not only involved in going against the MCO directives but were also obstructing the authorities from carrying out their duties.
“They are no longer charged under Act 342 of the Penal Code but also of the Penal Code which carries severe penalties. That's why some people were sentenced to eight months and so on,” he said.
As of yesterday, Ismail Sabri said the PDRM and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) had conducted 745 roadblocks and inspected 331,839 vehicles nationwide.
In addition, a total of 25,554 surprise checks were conducted nationwide including on 4,399 premises.
