AMONG the headlines for Thursday, 27 May, 2021, Malaysia reports another 7,857 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

This is the third consecutive day of cases breaching the 7,000 mark, putting the total number of cases in the country at 541,224.

Of the total daily cases recorded today, Selangor had the highest with 2,675 new cases. This is followed by the states of Sarawak (772), Kelantan (754), KL (561), Johor (549) and Kedah (441).

Meanwhile Perlis (6) and Putrajaya (12) are the only areas in Malaysia with new cases falling below the 100s.

Also, German scientists claim to have discovered the cause of some coronavirus vaccine blood clots.

According to the researchers, COVID-19 vaccines that employ adenovirus vectors - cold viruses used to deliver vaccine material - send some of their payload into the nucleus of cells.

Some of the instructions for making coronavirus proteins can be misread, potentially triggering blood clot disorders in a small number of recipients, they suggest.
