Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) will soon introduce a safety passport system for all contractors and workers under the company in a move to enhance safe practices at the work place.

The director of the Prasarana Group Infrastructure Development, Amirudin Ma'aris said that under the system, only holders of the document were allowed access to the project area.

"The contractors and their workers are required to attend the safety briefing and must pass the test held at the end of the session before being eligible to receive the safety passport," he said in a statement.

For this purpose, Prasarana had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

"The Prasarana group will cooperate closely with NIOSH in implementing all the requirements stated in the safety passport and all programmes on workers' safety and health," said Amiruddin.

The module for the passport system was being drawn up by both parties, added the statement.

Prasarana is the owner of several public transport infrastructure projects especially in the Klang Valley.
