The Selangor Government has taken steps to ensure there is sufficient water supply in the state and Klang Valley for six months when the El Nino phenomenon hits the country.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the state government had already exercised the Hybrid Off River Augmentation System (Horas) project to increase raw water supply.

"If we get El Nino conditions in June, July and August, we can provide enough water for the period because water reserves can accommodate up to six months," he told reporters after launching the cycling event, 'Shah Alam Enduride 2014' here today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has predicted the country would experience dry season from June until September this year.

The World Meteorological Organisation has forecast El Nino might likely occur mid-year and last between six and 18 months.

Some parts of Selangor and the Klang Valley have been experiencing water rationing regularly and staggered over three months between February and April due to lack of water supply recently.
