KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a viral video on social media that shows former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak allegedly violating the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) at a restaurant here on Friday.

Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said his department is conducting an investigation under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and Regulation 18, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Conditional Movement Control) Regulations (No. 4) 2021.

"The viral video claimed that Datuk Seri Najib Razak did not perform a body temperature scan and 'check in' MySejahtera when he wanted to enter the Chee Meng Hainan Chicken Rice Restaurant in Jalan Bukit Bintang here.

"All those involved in this case will be called to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters to testify in the near future," he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said the investigation paper will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor's office when the investigation is completed.

On Friday, Najib admitted his mistake of not scanning MySejahtera while eating at the shop.

He asked the authorities to issue a compound against him for such negligence.

“I admit my mistake this time of not making my own 'check-in' even though my officers have done so.

"It's okay. I ask the authorities to issue a summons against me for this unintentional mistake," he said in a post on Facebook on Friday.
