The second phase of the Taman Rekreasi Pudu Ulu in Cheras through an allocation of RM11 million has been completed and opened for public today.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the project was a continuation of the facilities available at the current Taman Pudu Ulu and aimed at providing recreational activities for the people living in and around the area.

"The design of buildings in the 33-acre (13.35 hectare) site was based on the need of the users and based on a metropolitan park concept, user friendly, green technology and water recreational facilities.

"The specialty of the second phase is a swimming pool that was designed especially for children and the first of its kind in a public park in the city and serves as an icon for Taman Rekreasi Taman Ulu Pudu," he said when opening the park, here today in the presence of about 500 residents and visitors.

He said among facilities available is the Plaza Utama, a canopy covered space suitable for recreational activities like Zumba and aerobics.

Tengku Adnan said city folks living around Taman Pudu Ulu must feel proud of the facilities available in their area, especially so since the park has been chosen among venues that would feature in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August.

He said the Petanque venue that would be completed by June and used for petanque events in the SEA Games is situated in the park. -- Bernama
