Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail could be considered as making a misstep if one sees "the Kajang Move" as planned by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) as an easy route to Putrajaya, said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The former prime minister said the opposition's ambitious dream to form the next federal government through the Kajang by-election was futile and troublesome to people.

"When I came here just now, I thought, I had gone to the wrong place as I saw posters of Azizah with the words from "Kajang to Putrajaya" written on them She made a misstep... this by-election is to elect Kajang's representative in the Selangor's state assembly," he said when addressing Umno Senior Government Pensioners Club members here today.

Also present was the Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun .

The Kajang's state seat was vacated following the resignation of incumbent Lee Chin Cheh, of PKR on January 27.

PKR's slogans for the by-election are "from Kajang to Putrajaya" and "Justice for Anwar".

Mahathir said the people must not allow themselves to be swayed by the opposition's tactics, which were merely intended to achieve Anwar's political ambitions.

"The elections are all whirling around Anwar and his family only. When he could not contest, he asked his wife to be the candidate.

"Obviously this struggle is a struggle for Anwar's family, for Anwar to be the prime minister," he said.
