The lecture given by famous Islamic scholar from India, Dr Zakir Naik, at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), has given an opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslim students to learn more about Islam.

UMT vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar said it was a positive start for Muslims and non-Muslims to explore Islamic knowledge in the context of a plural Malaysian society practising a variety of beliefs and religions.

"We at UMT are delighted with the good response whereby many Muslim and non-Muslim students asked Dr Zakir various questions.

"We did not force non-Muslim students to attend the lecture but they still came to get clarification from the famous scholar," she told reporters after the talk at Sultan Mahmud Islamic Centre here Monday.

Dr Zakir, who is on a tour of Malaysia, delivered a lecture titled "Islam is the Best Solution for Humanity" which was attended by over 10,000 students and lecturers.

He will visit Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu in Besut and Kemaman on April 12 and 14.

Meanwhile, Fundamental Sciences (Biology) student, Puteri Nur Qhalida Roslan said she had been following the lectures by Dr Zakir via YouTube and TV Al Hijrah.

"I am impressed with his wise arguments guided by the Quran and Hadith in answering questions from the public in the series of lectures," she added.
