The people should avoid groups which make sweet promises, besides instigating them to oppose the government.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the groups were also spreading the politics of hate towards the government and leaders.
"On the other hand, the present government is advocating a politics of unity, harmony and stability in the country.
"We also want to bring in greater development and take the nation and the people's pride and recognition to greater heights," he told a meet-the-people session at the Kampung Haji Baki Mesjid Darul Ehsan near here tonight.
Najib said the people should learn from the bitter experiences of countries such as Eygpt, Syria, Libya and others involved in the 'Arab Spring' uprising.
He said instead of experiencing the beauty and tranquillity of the spring season, they faced only sufferings and internal strife and instability within their own country.
"The people should not allow themselves to be misled. They should learn from such bitter experiences," he added.
On Sarawak, Najib said his very regular visits to the state since becoming prime minister was because he wanted the state to be developed like any other state in the country.
"That is why the federal government is bringing in mega projects like the Pan Borneo Highway which can be the game changer in developing Sarawak and Sabah.
"The federal government is really committed to developing Sarawak and taking its development to even greater heights.
"But it needs long lasting and full support to ensure all development projects and plans are implemented smoothly. Rome was, after all, not built in a day," said the prime minister.
On the coming 11th Sarawak State Election, he called on the people to continue to give Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem their fullest support.
"As the president of the Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu party, he must be given a mandate. If he is given this mandate, he will certainly be in a better position to bring in even better and more development to the state," said Najib.
He said as Barisan Nasional (BN) leader, the people should be convinced of the proven track record of the BN which the opposition had yet to match.
Najib said if Adenan won big, it would also strengthen the position of the federal government as Sarawak was one of its strongest foundations.
At the function, he announced a grant of RM1 million for the construction of a community hall for the village, besides his approval for new buildings to replace the ageing SK Kampung Baki.
He also handed over a personal donation to the son of the village chief, Taib Hamdan, who passed away this morning.
