Gabungan NGO Gerakan Merah Malaysia (GNGMM) chairman Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos announced his resignation as head of UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) Sungai Besar division.

Jamal said he was adamant with his decision so as not to tarnish the good name and dignity of UMNO and BN, especially with regards to his detention by the police over his Ampang gambling centre bust recently.

"I do not want to involve UMNO with what had happened to me as the actions were purely mine along with my friends on behalf of the NGO.

"My position (in the party) is not important, but I dedicate my life for the sake of the people of Selangor," Jamal said in a press conference at his residence, here, today.

However, he said, the final decision is up to Selangor UMNO liaison chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Jamal further said that he will send the letter of resignation tomorrow and will meet Noh soon over the matter.
