National cyclist Muhammad Ariff Jamaluddin emerged as the overall champion in the men's elite BMX event at the 2014 National BMX Championships, Melaka Circuit in Taman Botanikal Ayer Keroh, Melaka, Sunday.

Muhammad Ariff representing Selangor clocked 39.793s seconds to win the title en route to beating seasoned rider Muhammad Aim Muhammad Fauzi from Pahang who managed a time of 41.432s. Another Selangor rider Norshahriel Haizat Ahmad Nazali finished third with a time of 41.659s.

"Emerging as the National champion has given me a new lease of life and added confidence because I will be competing in the BMX Asia Championships in Riau (November)," said Muhammad Ariff in a statement issued by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF).

He added that he would use the win as a platform to improve his performance after failing to win medals at the Myanmar SEA Games, last month.

Meanwhile, Singapore's Nur Nasthasia Nadia Abdul Nazzeer emerged as the overall champion in the women's elite category after clocking 47.088 to beat Sabah's Natahsya Soon (47.806s) and Siti Nur Afiqah (48.184s).
