Six men have been arrested for investigation over rioting by Penang hard core supporters outside Stadium Negeri, Batu Kawan near here, last night.

Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief, Supt Shafee Abdul Samad said all the suspects in the early 20s, were arrested around the stadium after the police managed to stop the rioting and restore order.

"Police arrested four men who were in possession of a flare casing, another had 12 ball type firecrackers while the other had four ball type firecrackers."

Shafee said there are no reports of people getting hurt in the rioting and that no damage was also reported at Stadium Negeri.

The six suspects were remanded to assist investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

A group of hard core supporters of the Penang football team rioted outside the stadium at about 11pm soon after Penang lost 0-1 to Sarawak in a Super League match.

The fourth straight loss for the Panthers proved too much for the Penang hard core supporters who blamed the Football Association of Penang (FAP) for poor state of Penang football. - BERNAMA
