The Ministry of Works is focusing on three aspects of the construction sector's standard operating procedures (SOP) during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Senior Minister of Infrastructure, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said these aspects involved construction sites, workers' movements and workers' quarters.

“In this SOP, we are focusing on the construction site itself.

“Secondly, the movement of workers and the third is in the living facility of workers as provided by employers or agencies.

"It is to enable them to administer and comply with all requirements to ensure control of the COVID-19 infection and to maintain good practices as defined by the Ministry of Health (MOH)," he said at a press conference on the SOP in construction during the Movement Control Order (MCO) here on Wednesday.

Fadillah said his ministry was working closely with other ministries such as the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), the MOH and the Ministry of Human Resources on the matter.

“KKR views seriously the need to balance life and livelihood and the question about earning a living.

"Although some companies will be allowed to operate, the SOP and guidelines need to be adhered to, to protect the construction industry workers and the general public from the risk of the COVID 19 outbreak," he said.
