Self-service laundrettes are not allowed to operate throughout the two-week Movement Control Order period.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) said the ban is to prevent the crowd from gathering.

"Self-service laundrettes cannot operate throughout the duration of the Movement Control Order to prevent the public from assembling," a KPDNHEP spokeswoman said in a statement on the frequently-asked questions (FAQs) regarding the implementation of the Movement Control Order in the retail sector.

She said night markets and agro-markets are also not allowed to operate.

However, the distribution centres involved in the supply of essential goods and food are allowed to continue operating.

The spokeswoman said restaurants and food courts could be opened but only for takeaway and delivery orders, or through delivery services by certain companies such as Grab Food and Food Panda.

There will strictly be no dining-in at all restaurants and food outlets.

Supermarkets and shopping malls that carry out retail operations are also allowed also continue. However, they are only allowed to open sections that sell food and essential goods.

"The ministry encourages supermarkets to exercise self-control to deal with the purchase of food items and daily necessities by consumers," she added.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced the Movement Control Order to be in force today until March 31.
