PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar today questioned the police’s move in only taking action against Pakatan Rakyat leaders and not against UMNO members who might have said things which are sensitive in nature.

She cited Baling UMNO Wanita chief, Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim, and Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as examples of those who had issued statements sensitive to religion and race.

“Why are the authorities not acting against them as well? They have said things which had sparked a lot of anger among people.

“We want the police force to serve the rakyat, not UMNO, Najib and his cronies,” the Lembah Pantai MP told reporters in front of the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) today.

Nurul Izzah spoke to newsmen just before she entered the Dang Wangi IPD with activist Safwan Anang to give her statement regarding her involvement in the recent #KitaLawan rally, as well as on the Opposition Leader’s speech she gave in Parliament on March 10 which was deemed seditious in nature.

It is understood that both Dr Mashitah and Ismail Sabri had, before this, been called up by the police to give their statements on their remarks.

Last December, Dr Mashitah had given her statement to the Dang Wangi police about a remark she made about an al-Qur’an burning incident in Kedah, where she had implicated a certain community to have done it.

She made the remark during her debate at the 2014 UMNO General Assembly.

As for Ismail Sabri, he gave his statement to Bukit Aman last February, pertaining to his comment on Facebook urging the public, particularly Malays, to boycott Chinese traders in an effort to bring down prices of goods.
