Qatar Airways will launch non-stop flights from Doha to Ta'if in the Mecca province of Saudi Arabia beginning Oct 2, Qatar's national carrier announced Monday.

The latest flight service brings the carrier's global network to 131 destinations worldwide, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

"We have been steadily growing our services to Saudi Arabia in nearly 20 years. As our sixth destination, Ta'if brings additional connectivity for passengers connecting from Asia, the Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries," said Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker.

An Airbus A320 will operate the flights four times a week.

The launch marks the continued expansion of services by Qatar Airways to Saudi Arabia since introducing non-stop flights to Jeddah in 1997.

The airline has since added Riyadh, Dammam, Medinah and Gassim to its portfolio of destinations.
