Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW Television Network, took advantage of the launch of the second season of "Arrow," a show based on DC Comics character Green Arrow, to announce that Flash, the superhero dressed all in red with a yellow lightning bolt, is headed towards a return to TV.

Originally seen on a CBS show in the early 1990s, Flash, the superhero who moves faster than his own shadow, will make a striking return to TV, this time on CW.

Initially, Flash will be introduced in the second season of "Arrow," where he will join Green Arrow as part of the Justice League.

After bringing up the legendary superhero alliance, the producers on "Arrow" noted that there may be appearances of its other members, who include Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman, Batman and Aquaman, The Hollywood Reporter notes.

For the time being, there is no word on who might portray Flash.

A new film adaptation of the adventures of the superhero may be in the works for 2016.

The potential film would be directed by Greg Berlanti, who contributes the screenplays for "Arrow." Berlanti is well-schooled in the world of fantasy movies, as he participated in the making of "Wrath of the Titans" and "Green Lantern."
