Former Malaysian Islamic Training Institute director Datuk Ahmad Mustafa Karim was named as the recipient of this year's Melaka 'Tokoh Maal Hijrah' here today.

Ahmad Mustafa, 65, said the award encouraged him to continue his contribution for the good of all races, religions and the country and called on every Muslim to also do the same.

The father of seven also advised the young generation to be ready with knowledge and outstanding personality to carry on the responsibility in developing the country.

He was met by reporters after receiving the plaque for the award, together with RM10,000 cash and certificate from Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob here today.

Ahmad Mustafa was also formerly the Sabah Islamic Development Department director, Melaka Islamic Religious Council secretary and Melaka Islamic Religious Department's Dakwah Division assistant director.

The ceremony, held in conjunction with the state level Maal Hijrah celebration, also saw Melaka Joint Youth Council president Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali receiving the state level Maal Hijrah 2016 awards for the youth category. - BERNAMA
