PKR has urged for the apprehension of those involved in the gunning down of its member Bill Kayong in Miri this morning, hoping that the police would track down the murderer soon.

Its de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in a joint-statement today, expressed shock over the incident that occurred at about 8.30am Tuesday.

"At this point, the motive of the murder remains unknown. However, we urge everyone to be patient and wait for the full statement from the police.

"We also urge for those involved in this cold-blooded murder to be tracked down, arrested and brought to justice," said the statement.

Anwar and Wan Azizah also described Bill as an activist and committed member to the party's reformation agenda who always raises issues close to the hearts of Sarawakians.

In the incident, Bill who was PKR candidate for the Bekenu state seat in the Sarawak election last month, was shot dead this morning.

The 43-year old PKR Miri branch secretary was killed in broad daylight at a traffic light intersection of Jalan Permyjaya-Kuala Baram.

Bill, who was driving a Toyota Hilux pickup truck which carries the PKR logo, was shot from the driver's window while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.

He was reportedly shot in the neck and found collapsed in his seat at around 9.20am.
