KOTA BHARU: The Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V today expressed his disappointment with the action of those responsible for spreading negative news on COVID-19 that it hampered efforts by the government to control the spread of the pandemic.

Sultan Muhammad V said from his observation, vaccination is the appropriate preventive measure to protect the people from the virus.

"Stop action that can create a lot of conflicts, that can create more problems and make life difficult.

"Whatever polemics and conflicts that arise will affect the focus on resolving the pandemic, as well as economic, social, religious and other developments in the society," said Sultan Muhammad V in his royal address when opening the Fourth Term of the 14th Kelantan State Assembly here today.

The royal address was read out by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

Sultan Muhammad V said the state government had spent RM33.52 million in 2020 and RM18.77 million this year to help those affected by the pandemic due to the closure of economic activities.

The assistance provided included in the form of Economic Stimulus Package, Basic Essential Aid for Every State Constituency, Cash Initiative for Hawkers and Petty Traders and Kelantan Entrepreneur Assistance which have directly benefited the people," he added.

Sultan Muhammad V also expressed his appreciation to all frontliners for their service in ensure the COVID-19 epidemic in the state is always under control.

"Thank you also to all state and federal departments and agencies, as well as non-governmental organisations for their assistance in easing the burden of the people who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

The State Assembly was adjourned to 9 am tomorrow.
