Police detained a female bartender and seized various types of drugs worth RM163,000 in a raid at her apartment in Bandar Baru, Air Itam here yesterday.

Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar said the suspect, aged 31, was picked up in the 3.25pm raid.

"Police seized ketamine weighing 2.692kg, syabu (550g), Eramine 5 (120 pills), ecstacy (43 pills) and marijuana (3.2g)," he told a press conference here today.

Anuar said the woman, who was believed to have been involved in drug smuggling activities over the past six months, had allegedly obtained the drugs' supply from a syndicate before selling them to her regular customers around here including at the entertainment outlet where she was working.

The suspect was being remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation, he added.

Meanwhile, on the case where a man escaped police custody on July 9, Anuar said police needed to record statements from several other witnesses to complete the probe papers.

"The public prosecutor has returned the investigation papers to us so that we can complete the probe," he said.

In the incident, three detainees were taken out of the Bayan Baru police station central lock-up near here at about at 2am on grounds of seeking treatment at a hospital. However, investigations found they were brought to meet their families in Sungai Ara instead.

One of the detainees, Anuar Ayat, 43, who was arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, escaped when he was said to have met a friend in Sungai Nibong after meeting his family members at a condominium in Sungai Ara.

Following the incident, eight policemen and a fishermen were remanded but were later released on police bail.
