Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government is always committed in ensuring fairness is fostered for the people to live in peace.

He said it was the commitment of the government to take into account the views of all quarters in administering the country.

"While we welcome the differences in opinions, I call upon (all quarters) to celebrate the difference in opinions in a harmonious state, without offending any party," he said in his 2016 New Year message today.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, urged the people to exercise care with the information which was easily available at their finger tips.

He said, not all information available, were truthful and accurate, whereby the information available could be used by irresponsible quarters to destroy the nation and nationhood institutions.

"We are now faced with the perception terrorists who use their skills in communication to change the perception of the people and reduce to tatters the communal unity which was developed in the half a century of independence," said Ahmad Zahid.

Meanwhile, Gerakan President Datuk Mah Siew Keong said Malaysians should safeguard the basic foundation of nationhood as unchanging point of reference to solve problems of the day to move forward.

"In 2016, we should make every effort to stop the vicious circle while embarking on the path of healing and reconciliation.

"After much upheavals throughout 2015, the nation must discover its unity and strength," he said.
