The Federal Territories Ministry will announce in two weeks' time the guidelines for mobile soup kitchens giving food to the homeless.

Its deputy minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said today the guidelines would not involve soup kitchens operated from premises such as houses of worship and shoplots.

He said the purpose of drawing up guidelines for mobile soup kitchens which used lorries, vans and other vehicles to dispense food to the homeless, was to ensure that the operators observed cleanliness in carrying out their activities.

Loga Bala was asked by reporters to comment on the ruling for soup kitchens not to operate within a 2km-radius from the busy Lot 10 shopping complex in Jalan Bukit Bintang, here.

Earlier, he had handed out the l7th Sukma incentives to the recipients and attended the breaking of fast with Federal Territories sports associations, here.

He said the ministry might suggest certain locations like the community halls at the Public Housing Projects (PPR) for mobile soup kitchens to operate.

"We may find them places to distribute (the free food). We don't want (Kuala Lumpur) to look like a city of beggars where they even approach cars to beg for alms," he added.
