Federal Traffic Police has given its assurance to the public that investigations into the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) highway will be conducted in a transparent manner, without any prejudice to any individuals involved in the accident.

Federal Traffic Police chief, SAC Datuk Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff said the Federal Traffic Police has started investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 upon receiving a report about the accident.

"The parties found to be negligent causing accidents will still be taken to court to be prosecuted.

“The initial investigation showed a Mitsubishi Pajero Sports vehicle and two Perodua vehicles involved in this accident," said Mohd Fuad in a statement.

He added that police have arrested a 31-year-old Malay man and a Malay woman aged 35 who were involved in this fatal accident.

"They have been released on police bail and are required to report back to Kuala Lumpur traffic police station in two weeks," he said.

The police also appealed to the public who witnessed the accident to come forward to assist in police investigations.

He also urged the public and the media to refrain from any speculation as it will affect the police investigation in an effort to get the truth.

The accident occurred early Saturday morning at 12.30am involving six Perodua Myvi cars racing on the highway heading towards Damansara when one of the cars lost control and hit a Pajero vehicle.

The collision caused the four wheel vehicle to overturn and its passengers thrown out of the car.

The victims were later identified as Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, his wife Nova Safitri Azhari, 25, and their seven-month daughter Nur Firuza Annisa.
