KUALA LUMPUR: As of midnight Sunday (August 1), Malaysia identified a total of 2,783 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the overall total to 4,680,053.

Based on the data from the COVIDNOW portal, there were 2,780 local transmissions, while three were imported cases.

Three states with the highest COVID-19 cases were Selangor (826), followed by Kuala Lumpur (473), and Sabah (252).

The Ministry of Health reported a total of 4,482 new recoveries, taking the total number of those recovered and discharged to 4,598,778.

Active cases in the country now stands at 45,306, with 54 patients under intensive care and 32 requiring ventilator  support.

Meanwhile, there were nine COVID-related deaths reported, raising the death toll to 35,969.

Malaysia has administered 8,362 COVID-19 vaccine jabs on Sunday, which makes 86 per cent of the population vaccinated with at least one dose.

About 84.1 per cent of the nation are fully vaccinated, with 49.6 per cent have received their first booster dose and 1.1 per cent have received their second booster jab.
