Some 158 Malaysians who are stranded at the Esenboga International Airport in Ankara may resume their journeys to their next destinations either late today or tomorrow, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Wisma Putra in a statement today said on the other hand, 31 Malaysians who were stranded at the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, would leave for their destinations today.

"Thirty-two Malaysians have safely arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this morning," the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry also confirmed that the tense situation in Turkey had begun to ease and was now under control following the botched military coup in the country on Friday.

The operations at all major airports in the country are reportedly back to normal.

According to the statement, special task forces were set up and stationed at all major airports in Turkey to help Malaysians who were on transit or stranded to continue with their journeys to next destinations.

The teams were made up of officials from the Malaysian Embassy in Ankara, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Tourism Malaysia, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and assisted by the Malaysian Consulate in Istanbul.

The ministry will continue to monitor the current situation in Turkey and render assistance to Malaysians who are affected following the crisis, the statement said.

The international media reported that some 160 civilians and 104 "plotters" were killed in the ensuing clashes, and more than 1,440 were injured.
