The Malaysian Indian Blueprint (MIB) launched in April, will effectively resolve socio-economic problems faced by the community over a period of 10 years, said MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said various development programmes have been outlined in the master plan to address critical issues which have been plaguing the Indian community.
Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, described the blueprint as a sincere and honest move by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in addressing problems of the Indian community comprehensively so that the people were not left out of mainstream development.
"The plans have been laid out and are being implemented systematically. I am confident through this blueprint a long-term solution to all matters involving Indians, can be achieved and the plan will succeed.
"The MIB will create various opportunities elevating capabilities through employment, entrepreneurship and education thus giving a bright future for the younger generation," he said in his speech in conjunction with Deepavali this Wednesday.
Dr Subramaniam at the same time urged Hindus in the country to treat Deepavali celebration as a platform to foster unity and understanding among the various races.
He also advised Malaysians to eat moderately, select healthy foods and to reduce foods which are rich in fats and sugar to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCD) that were increasingly significant among the Indian community.
Meanwhile, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan advised the people to continue to unite in maintaining harmony and to dismiss all negative elements from outside which could disrupt racial unity.
"The Indian community in this country should continue to support the existing government and not listen to lies that the government had been ignoring the interests of the Indians in this country," he said.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan meanwhile said Deepavali was a platform to create rapport and friendship among the races as well as strengthen the family institution.
