Nine men have been remanded for four days from Friday to assist investigations into an attack on Vietnamese football supporters during Malaysia's first leg semi-final match in the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup at the Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday.

Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad issued the remand order to enable all the suspects, aged between 19 and 29 years, to be investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

The incident took place when a group of Harimau Malaya (national squad) supporters became frustrated after Malaysia lost 1-2 to Vietnam and allegedly threw objects at Vietnamese supporters.

In the commotion, one Vietnamese supporter was injured.

Malaysia qualified for the final after defeating Vietnam 4-2 in the second leg semi-final at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, yesterday.

Meanwhile, Selangor CID chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the nine suspects were among 15 football supporters wanted to assist investigations.

He said the men were detained around Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor between 10.30pm last night and early this morning.

"We are still looking for the remaining six individuals whose pictures have been distributed to the media for help to expedite the investigation.

The Harimau Malaya squad are scheduled to face Thailand in the first leg final in Bangkok on Dec 17 and the tournament finale in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 20.
