JOHOR BAHRU:The Johor state government has given RM20.5 mln in 'Bantuan Awal Persekolahan' (student aid) to the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ) as was promised in the Johor Budget 2021.

Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad, said that under the 'Agenda Johor Berkebajikan' (Benevolent Johor Agenda), over 200,000 primary and secondary pupils from families with a household income of RM3,000 - RM7,000 will receive a one-off payment of RM100.

According to a statement today, a mock cheque was passed to JPNJ director, Shaharuddin Saari, at the Johor Menteri Besar's office and witnessed by Johor State Secretary, Datuk Azmi Rohani; Johor Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman, Mazlan Bujang; and Yayasan Pelajaran Johor general manager, Mahadon Marnin.

Shaharuddin thanked the state government for the aid, saying it will go a long way in helping parents buy school essentials.

"The schools will decide how to give out the money, either in cash or through a parent's bank account," he said.
