IPOH: Over 5,000 youths participated in the Rakan Muda Ramadan programme, involving 'tadarus' (Quran recitation) and 'Khatam Quran' (the completion of reciting the whole Quran), which was implemented in 116 districts nationwide.

Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, said that the ministry's iconic programme, which was introduced over 10 years ago, involves youths aged 15 to 25.

"Appreciation of the content of the verses of the Quran will inspire and encourage especially the youth to get closer to the Almighty and master all fields of knowledge," he said.

He said this after presenting donations to the asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat or tithe) group at the Khatam Quran and Iftar Rakan Muda Ramadan programme, at the Al-Ansar Meru Impian Mosque, Meru Raya here today.

He said that the 'tadarus' programme in every district in Perak, from the first to the 20th day of Ramadan, has officially completed the 30 juz (parts) of the Quran with the participation of almost 1,000 youths.

Ahmad Faizal said that the Iftar Rakan Muda Ramadan programme, which included a gotong-royong session and preparing the famous 'bubur lambuk', was also held to encourage the spirit of cooperation among youths, as well as to revive the practice of sunnah through a mass "buka puasa" or breaking of fast programme.

He said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports also held a virtual Quran Recitation Assembly for Youth, which was open to youths aged 15 to 30, where participants had to perform Quran recitation and make video recordings.

"The video recording must be uploaded to their respective Facebook account and sending the video link to the Musabaqah Al-Quran Belia-Virtual Facebook page," he said.
