GEORGE TOWN: Penang's tourism industry is now moving towards digitalisation with the launch of the 'Penang Virtual Series', in an effort to increase the state's visibility and subsequently attract more tourists.

State tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman, Yeoh Soon Hin said that the 'Penang Virtual Tour Series', an initiative by Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and Penang Tour Guides Association (PGTA), consists of ten episodes of video series that highlight Penang's appealing features while providing a clear overview of the tourist attractions.

"This is the latest effort from the state after the success of the previously released 'The Opposite Side of the Island (Bukit Mertajam), The Other Side of The Island (Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang), Jalan-Jalan Pulau Pinang brochure, Muslim Travel Guide booklet and Penang Welcomes You campaign'.

"The variety of unique alternative tourism products and sites in the video series enables viewers to have a better understanding of what Penang has to offer for a fun and distinctive experience in this Pearl of the Orient," he told reporters after the launch last night.

Yeoh stated that in an effort to appeal to a wider range of tourists, the video series would provide a detailed explanation on some of Penang's most appealing locations from a PGTA tour guide and also be made viewable to the public on PGT's Facebook Page.

Moreover, he said that both traditional and new media were utilised to ingratiate the recent reopening of international borders around the globe and make Penang one of the top travel destinations.

"We have also further elavated Penang's position in the international market with acceleration of organising and participating overseas tradeshows and roadshows, which helped in connecting the state to the overseas market," he added.
