IPOH: Perak Mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria, who was admitted to the hospital for COVID-19, died today. He was 82.

This was confirmed by the Perak State Mufti Department in a post on its official Facebook page today.

"We are saddened to inform that Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria just passed away," according to the post.

Perak deputy mufti Datuk Zamri Hashim, in a WhatsApp message, also confirmed the matter.

Previously, it was reported that Harussani and his wife Puan Seri Ainon Abdul Ghani were being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here before Hari Raya Aidilfitri for COVID-19 infection.

His wife recovered and was discharged on May 21.

It is understood that the remains of Harussani would be laid to rest at the Kg Melayu Sg Rapat cemetery.

He was appointed Perak Mufti in 1985 and received the Tokoh Maal Hijrah 2008 award as well as an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Islamic Education in 2010.
