Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to meet Islamic thinkers and intellectuals at a gathering at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on March 5.

They include ulama (scholars), umarak (leaders), mufti, personalities from institutions of higher learning, government-linked companies (GLCs) and heads of government departments.

The Prime Minister's political secretary, Datuk Jailani Ngah, said the gathering, scheduled to be attended by about 16,000 Islamic intellectuals, among others, was aimed at forging closer relations between the government and the ulama and umarak.

The prime minister is scheduled to make a special announcement at the function, he told Bernama here after visiting Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) at its main campus at Gong Badak here today.

Also present were UniSZA vice-chancellor Prof Dr Yahaya Ibrahim and State Education, Higher Education, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.
