PUTRAJAYA:Political instability that is affecting the country is deemed to be due to a split among the Malays.

Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said immediate efforts were needed to avoid further split.

Annuar, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketereh said that the priority now was to defend the fate of the people who were struggling to face the threat of a health crisis.

"I am thinking about the Malay parties towards PRU15 (15th General Elections). Malays and non-Malays want to see the Malays united because the Malays are the core of national politics.

"To me, if the Malays have no trust in politics and if the Malays are united, (of course) our friends among the non-Malays can be together with us for the prosperity of the country.

"But if the Malays as a core failed to unite, the country will continue to see political instability.

"I understand the political instability that occurs at this time is due to the disintegration of the Malays before the 14th GE," he told a press conference on the announcement of the Regional Cakna 3.0 Special Initiative in Menara Sri Region, Federal Territories Ministry, here on Thursday.

He said this when asked to comment on an update on his Facebook page yesterday regarding the call for Umno, Bersatu and PAS to return to the political "drawing board" in order to sketch something better for Malaysia.

In addition, he said, the country's political and Malay unity should be strengthened and that the three parties were responsible for ensuring that.

Commenting further, Annuar said he himself was in a state of confusion after seeing the power struggle now seemed to be the main agenda among a few political leaders.

"Unfortunately, those who are given great trust by the people in politics are more passionate about their status and position.

"I feel that many of us are busy thinking about who to give positions to; who should have the power, and so on.

"We have much less sat down to discuss the agenda of Malay interests, agenda of the poor, the Malaysian agenda, the agenda to face the problems of COVID-19 and difficulties of the people," he said.
