Seberang Prai, Penang is the latest location to experience a drought of more than 30 days, reaching its 31st day, yesterday.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said Langkawi, Kedah had been deprived of rain for 45 days as of yesterday, while Arau, Perlis had experienced 40 consecutive days without rainfall.

"As for the temperature, generally, as of 4pm yesterday, most areas in the West coast (Perlis, Kedah, P Pinang, Perak, Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and western Johor) have registered readings above 35 degrees Celcius," he said in a statement here, yesterday.

Tangau said Chuping in Perlis and Alor Star in Kedah were still experiencing heat waves with highest recorded temperatures of 38.6C and 37.9C, respectively.
