KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari who is the incumbent of the Sungai Tua seat in Gombak near here is facing a three-way fight for the seat in the Selangor state election on August 12.

Amirudin is up against Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin from PAS, who is also PAS Youth wing secretary, and G. Suman who is standing as an Independent.

Returning Officer Nor Azlina Abdul Aziz announced the candidates at the Dewan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Pusu nomination centre in Gombak.

In the 14th General Election (GE14), Amirudin, who is also PKR vice president, won with a majority of 11,374 in Sungai Tua after defeating three other candidates, from Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS and an Independent.

Meanwhile, Selangor UMNO chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (BN-UMNO) is in a three-cornered contest for the Gombak Setia state seat.

Megat Zulkarnain faces Muhammad Hilman Idham (PN-Bersatu) and Independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali.

Returning Officer Mohd Hasrul Hisham Abdullah announced the candidates for the Gombak Setia seat.

In GE14, Muhammad Hilman representing PKR won with a majority of 12,399 votes. He defeated Hasbullah Ridzwan (PAS) and Megat Zulkarnain (BN).

Meanwhile, Selangor PN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali faces PH candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli, who is Wanita PKR deputy chief, in the contest the Hulu Kelang seat.

The two political figures are contesting in seats that are new to them in this state election.

Juwairiya was the incumbent for the Bukit Melawati seat while Mohamed Azmin was former Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman.
