BUKIT MERTAJAM:The daughter of national football striker Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad has been discharged while his wife is reported to be in stable condition after having successfully undergone abdominal surgery.

Sharing the good news, Muhammad Syafiq’s father, Ahmad Ibrahim, 56, said the entire family was grateful that the surgery Nur Amalina Norain, 25, underwent at Seberang Jaya Hospital was a success.

"Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), two-year-old Aaira Nur Saffiyya has been discharged from the hospital and is cared by my family and I in Sungai Ara while Nur Amalina is currently in stable condition after the surgery last night.

"Currently, only Syafiq is allowed to see Nur Amalina...Alhamdulillah, everything is going smoothly and I hope she will get well soon,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said his plan to transfer Nur Amalina to a private hospital for further treatment had to be postponed for now as the doctors treating her wanted to monitor her progress after the surgery.

On Muhammad Syafiq’s condition, Ahmad said his eldest of four children was now communicating as usual after being depressed and listless since the accident that claimed three family members.

"Syafiq seems more determined, he slept last night in Pendang, Kedah and went to Seberang Jaya Hospital this morning to see his wife and daughter before contacting me to tell me that Aaira was being discharged,” he said.

Muhammad Syafiq was driving from Johor Bahru together with his wife and children, heading to his in-laws’ village in Pendang, Kedah when they met with an accident at 5.36 am yesterday.

Muhammad Syafiq, 25, and his daughter sustained light injuries while Nur Amalina was seriously injured.

His 22-day-old son, Muhammad Aisy Saqeef, and his mother-in-law, Zainab Wahab, 45, as well as their Indonesian maid Titik Sukamti, 42, died in the accident.
