A Sulu terrorist was shot dead by the security forces during a joint operation in Kampung Simunul this morning.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the 8.40am incident happened after the terrorist attacked a member of the security forces.

“The security forces was checking a target house in the village when the man attacked a security forces member.

“The man slashed the security forces member twice, on the front and at the back. The security forces member managed to shoot him back.

“The security forces member did not sustain serious injury because he was well equipped,” he said at a press conference in Felda Sahabat today.

Hamza said the dead man was the guard and assistant of an old religious man who was shot dead on March 2.

Hamza also said following the incident, six people were arrested.

“We arrested two women and four men. The women are the wife and daughter of the dead man.

“With this arrests, to date we have detained 121 people under Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012 and 443 people under other Acts.

“68 people were also shot dead,” he said.
