The United States (US) is keen to collaborate with partners, including Malaysia, and set up joint friends-shoring semiconductor facilities to increase its domestic supply on shore, said Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo.

She said a high-level discussion has been made with Senior Minister cum International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali at a semiconductor roundtable meeting held earlier today.

"So we talked (about) coordinating around job training, coordinating around enabling small and medium enterprises (SMEs), coordinating investments so that we can collaborate and not have redundancy in our investments.

"It was a broad ranging discussion to figure out how American businesses and the governments of Malaysia and the Malaysian businesses can increase communication data flow transparency collaboration so we can increase the supply and have a more resilient supply chain," she said.

Raimondo was speaking to local and international reporters during a teleconference today to conclude her first official visit to Asia from Nov 15-18, with stops in Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia.
