The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has approved an application for a name change by the Workers' Party of Malaysia to its new name Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah said the request was approved yesterday (Oct 1) based on the decision of an extraordinary congress held by the party on Aug 25 and Sept 8.

"Besides the name change, the approval granted includes change of the party's address and amendments to its constitution," he said in a statement Friday.

He said through the extraordinary congress, the party had appointed a new committee with Mohamad Sabu as chairman and Salahudin Ayub as deputy chairman.

Other committee members are Mujahid Yusuf (vice-chairman I), Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus (vice-chairman II), Mohd Anuar Mohd Tahir (secretary-general), Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus (assistant secretary), Asmuni Awi (treasurer) and Suhaizan Kaiat (organising secretary).
